Reminiscing with a Couple of Grenades and Majinis: New Resident Evil 5 DLC Reviewed

Hey, remember the days when Chris Redfield and his sassy BSAA partner, Sheva Alomar, crunched those mean ol’ Majinis side by side? I can still smell the blood rusting on the chainsaws, feel the Reapers using my guts as Play-Doh, and hear Sheva’s incessant nonsense about needing more ammo. Not to mention all the cheesy love and hugs (and, erm, Wesker drama) that hitched a ride with frustrating QTAs hogging the steering wheel. My brain can replay all that action as if it were yesterday … maybe because it practically was yesterday. Okay, a year does not equate to the concept known as “yesterday,” but Resident Evil 5 is managing against any non-masochistic odds to surf...

OnLive Launching June 17 for PC and Mac

Hey remember OnLive? The cloud-based game streaming service that everyone quickly judged to be a complete fail (i didn’t). Well today they announced they will launch in the 48 contiguous US states on June 17, 2010. The service will initially be available to PC and Mac like we already knew. The monthly service fee of $14.95. Each game purchase and rental will carry a charge on top of the base subscription. Steve Perlman, CEO of OnLive, confirmed that the final version of the OnLive “experience” will be demoed at E3 2010, which kicks off just two days before the service goes live. I will definitely be trying this out there. OnLive is going to waive the first three months of...

Iron Man: The Ultimate Guide to the Armored Super Hero

Okay so in case you don’t already know I have a tech-fetish, so my liking of super heroes like Batman and Iron Man should come to no surprise (I guess you can lump Inspector Gadget and 007 in there as well). DK Publishing, the publishers behind Marvel Encyclopedia and The DC Comics Encyclopedia, recently released Iron Man: The Ultimate Guide to the Armored Super Hero, written by Matthew K. Manning. This essential 200 page guide is packed with original comic book art and created in full collaboration with Marvel Comics. A must get if you love the comic books and Jon Favreau’s Iron Man film. This essential guide dwells into his tragic past to becoming a superhero. I read this and...

All Steam Systems Go For Mac, Says Valve.

Screw Hurt Locker, Valve has announced Mac support for its Steam digital distribution platform and Source — the leading PC gaming engine that powers  Left 4 Dead 2, Team Fortress 2, Counter-Strike, Portal, and the Half-Life series. In fact, Portal 2 will be Valve’s first simultaneous release across PC and Mac.  Steam and Valve’s lineup of games will be available to Mac users this April, but from here on out, simultaneous cross-platform releases should be standard protocol. I have been a PC gamer forever, but I now have a hate relationship with my PC. So this solves all problems in life for me, well at least Half of them. I’ll be here all night so get your favorite...

GelaSkins Joins Forces With Marvel

Earlier this year at CES, I was able to get my eyes on the new Marvel line of GelaSkins. Definitely one of my favorite non-tech findings at the convention and the nicest people at the booth. The leading provider of high-quality, artist-supported protective covers for mobile devices, today releases their new Marvel Comics designs, providing a wide range of images from legendary comics for laptop and iPhone skins. The new designs from Marvel include character images of Iron Man, Spider Man and X-Men. The designs will incorporate the characters themselves, along with classic designs of their original comic covers. Preset designs from each of these catalogs are initially available for laptops...

Five Reasons: Shoot 1up

In this edition of Five Reasons, we’ve decided to do something a little different. Instead of recommending a great gem from gaming’s past, we’ve opted to take a look at something a lot more current – Mommy’s Best Games’ Shoot 1up. Seriously, if you haven’t seen this game yet, you need to take a look… 1. It’s a got a twist on the usual shooter formula. Where most shooters pit one lone ship against an invading armada of aliens, Shoot 1up works very differently. In this game, you can have multiple ships on the screen at once, contracting and expanding them however you please. It’s a neat tactic, and one that involves more strategy than expected when gunfire comes reigning...
